The Eastern Surf Kayaking Association is proud to announce the 2008 Battle for Hatteras, a new event format for paddle surfing.

8 Teams of 3 paddlers will face off against each other on the beautiful beaches of the Hatteras National Seashore (North Carolina) in the quest to be crowned KEEPER OF THE LIGHTHOUSE. We hope to host the event in September of 2008 and are working to nail down a specific weekend. This will be a two day event.

Each team will consist of 1 High Performance (Short Boat) kayaker, 1 International (Long Boat) kayaker, and 1 Waveskier. Each team member will face team members from the other teams in their respective categories. Teams will accrue points based on the performance of their team members.

Teams will register as a team using Active.com, registration will be posted soon. There will be a maximum of 8 teams, so start forming your team now! There will be special incentives for including women and juniors on teams, as we wish to promote these two growing factions of paddle-surfing.

We hope the event will be a lot of fun, and will give a chance for us to try some new formats and promote paddle surfing.

We are currently working on affordable recommendations, sponsors, etc. and will post more information as it becomes available.

We also hope to have some really nice prizes for the event, so stay tuned for that as well!
